Our Commercial Team

Our Commercial Team

The Commercial Team are eager to get in touch and work with local suppliers.

Our team consists of highly skilled professionals, each playing a crucial role in supporting procurement projects. The team structure ensures we can provide tailored guidance, expertise, and resources to suit the unique needs of every project. Part of the Finance, Commercial, and Performance Services Directorate, we report to the Chief Finance Officer and help guide procurement across the Council.

Procurement

The Council鈥檚 procurement activities are governed by UK law and the Council鈥檚 own rules. These rules must be followed and are designed to promote non-discriminatory practice and provide transparency to tenderers. We purchase everything from office supplies to major infrastructure projects like bridges or public health initiatives. Procurement is all about engaging with and understanding the market, sourcing, awarding, and managing contracts.

Expertise and experience

We pride ourselves on our extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of procurement processes. Each member of our team is trained to the highest professional standards, holding Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) and Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS) qualifications relevant to their role. This ensures we remain up to date with best practices and are well-equipped to manage procurement projects of all sizes and complexities.

What we do

As a Commercial and Procurement Team, we play a central role in helping the Council achieve value for money, compliance, and social value through every contract. We support departments across the organisation by shaping procurement strategies, running compliant tendering processes, managing supplier relationships, and advising on contract performance. Our work ensures that public funds are spent efficiently and ethically, supporting both local communities and long-term outcomes.

We also contribute to the Council鈥檚 wider goals by embedding commercial thinking, innovation, and risk management into our approach to commissioning and service delivery. Our team helps services make informed, strategic decisions that align with the Council鈥檚 objectives.

We are committed to working with local and regional suppliers, creating opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and supporting inclusive economic growth. Through fair and transparent processes, we aim to build strong partnerships that deliver lasting impact for the people and places we serve.
